Sustainability Recognition and Awards Program Lead

Position Overview:
The Program Lead will develop a recognition program and awards program that will further sustainable development in our region. This is a volunteer position that will entail developing revenue producing products and services and/or grant applications that will create a paid position. The program lead will work with other Sustainable Seattle program managers and directors to ensure collaboration within Sustainable Seattle and will seek ways to collaborate with other not for profit organizations and government agencies. The program lead will report directly to the Executive Director.
Responsibilities:
- Guide the development of a recognition and awards program for businesses, non-profits and government agencies in the Central Puget Sound based on the goals in B-Sustainable.org (join and login to gain full access to the goals)
- Develop, facilitate and manage a steering committee for the structure of the recognition program, as well as advisers/experts for its content
- Create fee program for recognition, with different levels or tiers of achievement, much like LEED
- Develop resources for entities seeking recognition, including but not limited to compiling a list of action steps for improving sustainability, collaborating with other non-profit and for-profit entities, and creating a map-based directory of recognized businesses
- Develop web presence on the sustainableseattle.org website
- Monthly reports to the ED, weekly attendance of office meetings
- Annual awards event planning with other Sustainable Seattle office staff
- Manage volunteer staff as you develop the program
- Other responsibilities as needed for development and implementation of the program
Qualifications:
- Passionate and committed to sustainability for the greater good of the natural, built, social and personal environments and good of the individual
- Experienced at developing business models or strategies, managing projects and has an entrepreneur spirit
- Excels at working independently and within a group
- Understands the interlinked nature of sustainability, as well as that sustainability is a journey
- Able to communicate effectively to audiences based on their understanding and level of commitment to sustainability
- Loves to learn, have fun and turn the challenges into opportunities along the way to sustainability
