Position Overview: 

SBC seeks a Vice President and Chief Operating Officer to take primary responsibility for the day-to-day management of the organizations programmatic implementation and financial systems.

The Vice-President/Chief Operating Officer is a full-time, salaried position that reports to the President and is responsible for business and financial administration of the Sierra Business Council.

Responsibilities: 

• implementation of programmatic priorities to ensure quality and timeliness
• overseeing the financial and administrative functions of the organization
• Participate in the establishment of program direction, annual priorities and work plans
• Partners with SBC's President and staff on strategic planning, overall strategy development, and project development
• Manages project management staff, including personnel oversight, project specific cost accounting, and billing
• Reviews project contracts and agreements, and participates in project bids
• Has overall responsibility for managing SBC's project management system
• Supports program staff with strategic direction, risk management, SBC financial reports, and project budget development
• Manages administrative staff including functions of office management, information technology, human resources, bookkeeping, insurances, and accounting & finance
• Manages budgets and is responsible for annual budgets and for management reporting of profit & loss against budget
• Oversees management of bank accounts and cash flow
• Works with Chief Financial Officer and Finance Director to ensure that SBC's financial statements are accurate and comply with standard accounting principles and practices
• Oversees SBC's Human Resources systems including updates to the Employee Handbook, SBC's benefits package, support of recruitment and hiring, staff performance reviews, and personnel issues
• Supports SBC's President in preparation for Board meetings and fundraising
• Generates Job Descriptions and Work Plans for administrative and program staff
• Assists Finance Director in support of SBC's contract auditor  on annual financial audits and reporting
• Conducts SBC's board finance and project management advisory committees
• Work with SBC's senior management team to set broad priorities for SBC
• Work on a cross-functional team to advance SBC strategic priorities
• Supervise staff and contractors to ensure that they meet goals and have a clear sense of organizational and management expectations
• Participate in SBC external communications

• Support President in new program development

Qualifications:

• Demonstrated commitment to the mission, goals, and values of the Sierra Business Council.
• Background in business management, consulting, accounting, and/or operations with 10+ year's experience.  MBA preferred but not required.
• Experience managing people and running organizations including negotiating and administering contracts.
• Basic understanding of QuickBooks and Microsoft Office programs.  Experience with Project Management software a plus.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail with an ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in the absence of specific instructions. 
• Excellent communication skills.
• History of communicating clearly and building rapport and constructive relationships with staff, board of directors, clients, and the general public. 
• A strong desire for results - commitment to making things happen even with limited resources. 
• Strong attention to detail and confidentiality.
