Position Overview:
Green Cafe Network is seeking a Program Coordinator to work collaboratively with GCN's director to manage member benefits and services to our network of independent coffeehouses.
The ideal candidate for Program Coordinator will be highly motivated, organized and passionate about promoting and increasing environmental responsibility among small businesses and everyday citizens.
This is a part-time, contract position for the remainder of 2010, with possibilities of extension, and is a work-at-home (or in cafes!) position. Hours are 15-20 hours a week, with some flexibility in scheduling. Candidates must be in the Bay Area, and familiarity with Bay Area environmental and community work is a big plus.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinating: work collaboratively with GCN's director to manage member benefits and services to our network of independent coffeehouses.
- Outreach: assist in outreach to coffeehouses, via email, phone and in-person visits.
- Marketing: collaborate with GCN's director to market GCN through various media outlets.
- Education: Help organize trainings for café and restaurant staff on waste reduction, energy and water conservation and / or public events related to environmental sustainability.
- Research: some amount of research in green business products and practices will be required.
Qualifications:
- At least 3-5 years experience working for non-profit or social change organizations, preferably in the environment or environmental education field.
- Experience conducting outreach, marketing/publicity and organizing events.
- Great communication skills required - in every sense!
- A motivated, self-starter who can take on a project and run with it and is comfortable working remotely from home, cafes, etc.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to multi-task and stay organized.
- Strong interest and /or experience in working at the grassroots level, and working to raise public awareness.
- Love of coffee, cafes and the planet is a must.
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Bay Area residents only.
- Experience with Bay Area environmental programs is a great bonus.
- Experience working in a coffee shop is a big plus!
Compensation: This position is a contract position with no benefits. Work is hourly, about 15-20 hours a week and pay is $15-$17 per hour, depending on experience.
