Position Overview: 

The National-Corn-to-Ethanol Research Center (NCERC) is seeking qualified applicants for an Associate Director of Research. This unique and flexible research facility has the role of accelerating new technologies for producing renewable fuel more cost effectively. Advantages of fuel ethanol include increasing national energy independence, improving the environment, and promoting rural development.

Responsibilities:

• The Associate Director will be responsible for scientific and technical excellence of the NCERC.
• This position will be responsible for setting overall research strategy and overseeing client research platforms, financial plans, staffing, operations, commissioning, and validating this facility, which serves academia, government, private industry.

Current facility programs include: pilot plant validation and testing; collaboratively solving industry problems; certifying processes, products, and reagents; laboratory method development and analysis; and internships and training.

Qualifications:

Requirements:

• Previous experience in an agricultural related field is preferred.
• As a scientist in engineering, chemistry or microbiology, leads, directs, and conducts research for developing bioprocess and biotechnologies for lower cost biofuels and value-added co-products. This research employs sophisticated methodologies and/or new techniques or procedures.

Qualifications are, but are not limited to:

• PhD. In Engineering, Chemistry, and/or Microbiology (will accept at least 7 years experience in related field;
• publication record in peer-reviewed journals;
• accomplished speaker and communicator;
• scientific honors and awards;
• demonstrated ability to attract extramural funds.

Compensation:  Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
