Account Manager- Energy Efficiency/HVAC

Position Overview: 

The Account Manager will work predominately with HVAC contractors, builders, suppliers, and other organizations involved in the HVAC market on Long island in support of LIPA's Cool Homes program.  The successful candidate will be engaged in contractor and supplier recruiting, training, and Program and technical assistance activities.  The candidate must have excellent people skills, very good presentation and writing skills, and understanding of the HVAC industry and building practices.  Expertise in energy efficient residential construction and building science is highly desirable, but not required.

  • Drive Program success by pursuing partnership opportunities involving customers, participating contractors, Program Partners, suppliers, and other organizations involved in the HVAC industry in the LIPA service territory. 
  • Contractor, customer, and Program Partner relations: Presenting Program goals and opportunities, developing/facilitating/nurturing business relationships, and explaining technical/operational issues to customers, participating contractors, and Program Partners.
  • Work with program managers and other staff to design and implement business development plans that will promote overall growth of participating contractors' businesses, and increase the percentage of their business performed within the program.
  • Work with program managers to establish performance goals for participating contractors and monitor progress toward goals.
  • Stay current on latest Program initiatives, policies, procedures, etc. and propose ideas for program or process improvements.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in or ability to motivate market actors to adopt the Cool Homes program.  Relevant sales or manufacturer's representative experience or existing relationships with market actors in the Long Island HVAC market is a strong plus. 
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and enthusiasm for energy conservation are key attributes for this position. 
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC technology is required and comprehension of building science is a plus. Experience with residential HVAC cooling system sizing and installation, duct design, air infiltration reduction, or insulation is a plus.
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical and Program concepts to contractors, customers, suppliers and other related organizations. 
  • Proven ability to learn and process technical information from a variety of sources.
  • Computer proficiency, experience with Windows-based office applications is critical.  Familiarity with computerized building energy modeling software such as REM/Rate, Manual J, TREAT or other residential construction software is a plus.
  • Ability to work well independently and in a team setting.
  • Willingness and ability to achieve EPA HVAC Certification within the 1st year.
  • Local or regional travel is anticipated.  The successful candidate must have access to a personal vehicle to cover the assigned territory.  
  • Must have a clean driving record, no DUI or felony convictions. Record check will be performed annually.

Compensation:  Commensurate with experience.  Compensation package includes paid holidays, 80% paid medical, 50% paid dental, paid life & AD&D and paid STD & LTD insurance coverage, plus employer matching retirement plan .
