Coordinator/Instructor, Sustainable Technologies

Position Overview:
The coordinator is primarily responsible for coordinating and teaching courses in the sustainable technology program by working with the program director to implement, coordinate, and evaluate instruction in the program.
Responsibilities:
In addition to fulfilling the terms of appointment as specified in the contract of employment, the instructor is responsible for fulfilling the following duties:
1. General operations:
- Assist the program director in planning, executing, and evaluating the program goals, objectives, and related activities.
- Recommend, implement, and enforce when appropriate the academic policies and procedures of the College, together with its administrative rules and regulations and other controls intended to maintain order and the highest standards of instruction.
- Maintain effective communications with the program director through regular meetings, by timely written communications, and by other means as necessary.
- Maintain a weekly work schedule designed to ensure the completion of all teaching, advisement, and administrative responsibilities.
- Maintain office records as needed; process reports, forms, schedules and all other required paperwork in a timely and efficient manner, checking for the correctness and accuracy of all data.
- Maintain supportive relations at all times with all other units of the Career and Technical Education department, division and College.
2. Program management:
- Attend advisory committee meetings and department meetings as required.
- Assist the program director in reviewing and evaluating the program periodically for the purposes of innovation and curriculum development.
- Recommend to the program director appropriate revisions in the plan of study, course outlines, and other program information.
- Provide regular academic advisement for students enrolled in the program.
- Assist the program director in ensuring that the program is in full compliance with the requirements for accreditation, certification, and other standards stipulated by external agencies.
3. Instructional management and supervision:
- Coordinate with the program director the provision of textbooks and other resources and services required for the effective delivery of instruction, including supportive relations with other departments of the College.
- Assist the program director in preparing a master schedule of course offerings and class schedules which meet the requirements of the program and the needs of students, ensuring that the instructional resources of the College are being effectively utilized and its mission is being met.
- Provide accountable instruction at all times: the instructor must be on time and prepared for classes, all materials must be properly covered, instruction must be conducted as scheduled, and the course and program objectives must be met.
- Teach traditional and on-line courses as assigned by the program director.
- Teach course(s) in the First Year Experience program.
4. Other duties:
- Maintain a teaching load within the average range of 15 to 18 credit hours per semester as determined by the program's needs and as assigned by the program director, acknowledging that teaching loads are subject to change by the College.
- Maintain effective and productive relations with local and/or state and professional organizations.
- Provide assistance and support for the functions of Corporate & Continuing Education.
- Make recommendations to the program director concerning program needs for personnel, equipment, supplies, materials, and other resources.
- Provide adequate and appropriate support for Student Services in conducting student recruitment and registration, the orientation of new students, job placement of graduates, and other related activities.
- Assume other appropriate responsibilities and perform additional tasks as assigned by the program director, department dean, chief instructional officer, or President in meeting the needs of the College.
Qualifications:
Required Minimum:
- A bachelor's degree in a sustainability-related field (engineering, architecture, electrical, construction, sustainability, etc).
- At least 2 years full time work experience in a related field (solar panel installation, energy audit, green construction, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design - LEED, North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners - NABCEP work, or comparable credential from an accredited organization).
- NABCEP certification, or ability to obtain within the first year of employment.
- Knowledge of basic theories, principles, concepts and methodologies within sustainable technology practices.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals.
- Competence in computer operations and applications.
- A commitment, aptitude, and interest in teaching portions of courses on-line.
- A thorough understanding and commitment to the mission of the North Carolina Community College system.
- Competence in oral and written communications.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective communication and interpersonal relationships throughout the College and the community.
Normal Work Hours: This position is a 9-month faculty assignment. The instructor will work forty (40) hours per week, according to a flexible schedule, which includes day, evening, and weekend responsibilities or duties.
