Assistant Project Manager

Position Overview:

Assists in the management of ICMA's National Brownfields Conference. Assists in developing project work plans. Assists in pursuing additional funding sources and in preparing requests for proposals. Assists in maintaining brownfields conference website. Interacts with members pursuing information related to ICMA products.  Interacts with federal agencies, including the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Responsibilities:

Assist in managing the day-to-day operational aspects of ICMA's co-sponsorship of the National Brownfields Conference funded in part by a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency cooperative agreement. Specific tasks include:

  • Assisting with in the overall marketing and outreach of the National Brownfields Conference.
  • Writes and edits progress reports, meeting summaries, website articles, and conference materials for publication.
  • Organizes workshops and educational sessions, and identifies speakers and other materials
  • Manages continuing education credits program for targeted professional development of conference attendees
  • Manages travel scholarship program for nonprofit, local government and community representatives
  • Works with representatives from EPA, state agencies, affiliate organizations and non-profit groups on various issues and programs related to the National Brownfields Conference.
  • Assists in maintaining various filing and record keeping systems, compiles information and drafts, reports, and meeting minutes.
  • Maintains computer systems for tracking program participants, activities, and work plans. Organizes and maintains hard copy files and records for program staff.
  • Performs other job-related duties as required.

Position applies technical skills that influence the quality and quantity of work produced and carries out work plans and schedules that support operations of the organization.

Supervision Exercised:

Substantial coordination and integration of work efforts of several individuals is required to produce a completed and successful work product or service.

Level & Purpose of Contacts:

Contacts are with co-workers, managers, supervisors and technical staff in offices in and outside the organization or in other associations, and/or members.  Contacts usually take place in meetings and conferences scheduled at the request of one of the participants and via phone.

The purpose of the contacts is to coordinate program operations or support activities with the programs and support activities of other departments within and outside the organization.  The purpose is also to maintain effective communications with a variety of persons interested in the activity.

Qualifications:

(Minimum Required)

Education & Experience:

Bachelor's Degree in Public Administration, Public Policy, Environmental Studies, Political Science or related field. Experience in environmental, brownfields, economic and/or community development issues and Master's Degree are helpful.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • General knowledge of local, state, and federal government organization operations, structures, policies and programs related to brownfields, environment, economic and/or community development.
  • Familiarity with environmental, brownfields, economic and/or community development issues at the federal and local level is helpful.
  • Experience at working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment is essential.
  • Skills in assisting with the development and coordination of programs and projects.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
  • Ability to travel.
