Technical Accountant

Position Overview:
The Technical Accountant for Sungevity will report to the Controller. This is a newly created position resulting from the company's strong growth.
The position is responsible for identifying and operationalizing technical accounting guidance on routine and special accounting activities. The role requires this person to research technically complex accounting issues, document the company's position and provide appropriate information both internally and to the external auditors.
Responsibilities:
- Researches and provides technical guidance on complex accounting issues and documents company's position
- Monitors the activities of all accounting standard setting bodies, e.g. FASB, SEC, AICPA, EITF, and evaluates the effects of such activities on the company, ensuring accurate accounting and presentation of information on the company's financial statements
- Provides guidance on preparation of journal entries in the accounting system based on the new guidance and implements appropriate systems and controls to ensure that technical accounting standards and decisions are accurately applied throughout the company
- Provides guidance to other departments in their assessment of accounting issues
- Coordinates prepared-by-client (PBC) document requests for annual audits, working with the external auditors and fielding follow-up and clarification requests
- Creates and presents trainings and updates on the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) of the United States to accounting staff
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate must be results driven, have a strong sense of urgency and the ability to drive workflow.
The ideal candidate must have the following experiences and skills:
- CPA - Certified Public Accountant is REQUIRED
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance is preferred
- Exceptionally strong experience utilizing Microsoft Office and Accounting research tools
- This person will likely have 5+ years of total work experience including some time at a public accounting firm and some time within the accounting department at a public company
- Results orientation and the ability to handle multiple tasks at the same time.
- Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and prefer working knowledge of some of the accounting standards including FASB 13, SAB 104, FIN 46R and FASB 167.
- Strong analytical skills
- Familiarity with ERP systems required, preferably Great Plains Software
